James Rawes trained at the Newark School of Violin Making, qualifying in 1980. He gained valuable experience as a restorer at the prestigious firm of W E Hill & Sons in Buckinghamshire. In 1984 he returned to Carlisle and established his own business as a Violin maker and restorer. The majority of his instruments have been sold to Professional Musicians, Specialist Music School Pupils and Music College Students.
